Environmental Section - High Resolution Gaschromatography Lab
Determination of  PolyChlor DibenzoDioxins and PolyChlor DibenzoFurans (PCDD/PCDF)

Chelab is active since many years in the field of analysis of micropollutants (in particular PCBs, clorinated dibenzodioxins and dibenzofurans), using state-of-the-art technological equipment, such as HRGC/HRMS, and the most reliable and sensitive analytical methods.

The laboratory equipment includes:

3 High Resolution Mass Spectroscopy (HRGC/HRMS) ThermoElectron MAT95 XP
12 automatic cleaners FMS Power-Prep
3 automatic extractors Dionex ASE200
which allow the detection of highly toxic micropollutants in all types of sample

The laboratory uses official methods (EPA 1613, EPA 1668, UNI EN 1948) and accredited by SINAL (the Italian laboratory certification system) according to UNI CEI EN ISO/IEC 17025; the laboratory is able to guarantee its customers fast turnaround and reliable data.

The staff of the Contaminants and Additives division of Chelab, formed by 18 highly specialized analysts, is able to perform analysis on both food products (cereals, feed and feeding mixtures, vegetables and fruits, meat, fish, eggs, honey, milk…) and environmental samples (mostly air and water).

The activity of the laboratory can be divided into three principal categories:

Residues of contaminants research
Additives control
Allergens research

The Contaminants and Additives division of Chelab, is equipped as follows:

2 Gas Chromatographs (1 GC/MS and 1 GC/ECD)
2 UPLC–MS/MS systems
3 LC/MSD high performance ion trap mass spectrometers
1 Micro Plate Reader for Elisa kit
7 HPLC equipped with 7 diode-array detectors and 7 fluorimeters
2 LCQ MS ion trap LC-MS with electrospray (ESI) and APCI ionization

Further to this, for Radioactivity determination the laboratory is equipped with:

1 gamma spectrometer with germanium detector – HPGe (High Purity Ge)
1 scintillation spectrometer with sodium iodide (NaI) crystal activated with thallium (NaJ (Tl))

which allows the achievement of precise and accurate results.
